The first automated sprinkler system was invented in 1723 but the modern sprinkler system that we recognize today was first installed in 1812 in Britain. As of now, sprinkler systems are extremely common in buildings because they activate only by area of fire. That means only the individual sprinkler heads with triggered heat sensors release a fire suppressant, instead of the entire system. This minimizes both fire and water damage to the building. Most buildings in the United States, with few exceptions, must have a sprinkler system installed, especially if the building provides overnight, sleeping accommodations under the order of the National Fire Protection Association. Roughly 40 million sprinkler heads are fitted into buildings each year and 96 perfect of all fires were controlled solely by the sprinklers.
